SIP Phone
Delivering on time team successfully demonstrated an all IP call in CIBER Lab.
Intellectual Property CIBER, a Technology start-up with the focus on NexGen networks and appliance area yearns for venturing into creating its own Intellectual Property in its focus area. Voice communication on IP network is an emerging phenomenon, popularly known as VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Several VOIP technologies are in the race, and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) has emerged as the forerunner, and CIBER spotted this opportunity for building its own IPR. The Challenge Our challenge was to come up with IPPhone software based on SIP in 4Months. Our enthusiastic engineering team was assigned the task of developing a robust SIP Stack based on RFC 2543 and RFC 2327, integrating RTP/RTCP and audio related components to make the first IP call in CIBER Lab. The Technology The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application-layer control (signaling) protocol for creating, modifying and terminating sessions with one or more participants. These sessions include Internet multimedia conferences, Internet telephone calls and multimedia distribution. Members in a session can communicate via multicast or via a mesh of unicast relations, or a combination of these. The Work A detailed requirement gathering was undertaken to capture all the popular features of a traditional feature phone and then the team plunged into designing the SIP Stack and Call Processing Engine. The task of integrating these modules with RTP/RTCP, Audio Driver and User Interface was taken up, following which the whole software had to pass the gates of our testing team. The Result Delivering on time team successfully demonstrated an all IP call in CIBER Lab.
