Reputable U.S. Graduate School
School Selects CIBER for Application Development and Maintenance Solutions
CIBER’s Global Solution Center in India has been engaged with a Graduate School of Business, one of the most reputed Graduate Schools in US, providing Application Development and Maintenance solutions. The client sought to establish a long-term, highly collaborative relationship that would encompass strategy, design and deployment of critical applications including course planning, student registration and related administrative systems.
The business School’s IT infrastructure lacked the application framework and related application infrastructure to meet its fast changing demands. The applications were limited in their capacity to deliver a consistent online experience to the stakeholders - faculty, students and administrators.
The engagement offered CIBER the task of migrating administrative, academic and research services to the internet with the limitation that client’s legacy infrastructure imposed. The engagement focused on application development and maintenance for the University’s web-based applications which included the complete student life cycle starting with the Student registration system, Course planning to Alumni Management. A mature framework that brought flexibility and scalability to the application infrastructure was suggested and advanced algorithms were developed to handle students’ preferences optimally.
All the web applications that CIBER designed and developed were on J2EE platform using some of the technologies like Java server Faces (JSF) and AJAX to deliver a rich user experience, classic combination of Spring and Hibernate which provides strength and robustness to the middle layer and the data access layer. SQL server 2005 is used as the database along with other services of SQL server like SQL server Integration services (SSIS) to perform bulk import/export and SQL server Reporting services (SSRS) to deliver high performance reports. Oracle’s Hyperion software was also used in generating reports for some of the applications. Selenium was used to perform automated testing and silk performer to subject applications to load test.
CIBER also helped the business school’s IT team redefine and optimize its QA and application testing strategy. The new strategy resulted not just in better ROI but also made the University’s application testing more efficient. The end result was a superior quality product. India Centre brought to this engagement, a long-term mutually beneficial relationship, a local office for instant turnaround, strong client support and strategic value addition. CIBER today also manages part of the University’s IT infrastructure remotely from Bangalore. The University now has the power to leverage the cost arbitrage with higher service levels.
